I choose to believe the large majority of the medical establishment who regard adhd as a very real problem. People who reduce it to “bad parenting” are complete ignorant idiots who should be ashamed of themselves. Mensacyclist, I sincerely hope you don’t teach children anymore, feel sorry for anyone who had you as a teacher!

As a teacher of 9 years I can tell you that ADHD is CRAP!! It’s nothing more than a 21st century excuse promoted by weak parents. The SYMPTOMS of ADHD are most certainly real but they are also entirely avoidable through proper nutrition and discipline. I’ve never had an “ADHD” student who ate properly. All were on a steady stream of Sugar, High Fructose Corn Syrup and sythetic psuedo-food. Most came from single parent “families”. Most would fall toward the left side of the bell curve.
I can only agree with you mensacyclist…and you mnhugh sounds like one with a mental behavial disorder…it’s defenetly the genes!
What could the symptoms be?: arguments without substance…? Isn’t it already in the DSM?? 
I have been ADHD for my whole life…Last year all my symptoms disappered because I changed the way of thinking…..ADHD is a FRAUD!

I wish you guys could be in my head for a day. You would believe in ADHD. People around me don’t question it after hanging out with me. I didn’t read and comprehend until I took Adderall! It was like magic….. 17 years of school didn’t do it but 1 pill did!It was not until a couple years ago I realized really how you people think. It is way different that I do. What?!? Adderall does not increase academic performance? Why is it an epidemic in colleges then?
It is epidemic in colleges because like the drug speed – it is ‘helping’ with academic performance.Many get better grades and get more done on Speed, so should we give them a medical label and say that neccessitates a prescription for Speed in order for them to function?Some people need drugs for severe disorders, but the man who started prescribing Ritalin, himself said it was overprescribed. If you look stoned when on a drug – you dont’ need it! and most, not all – don’t need it
It’s the teachers too. They want to put your kid on meds as soon as they act up. I simply switch my kids school and under a better, less impatient, teacher, he is thriving.ADHD I’m sure is real but it’s severly over-diagnosed, imparticularly by parents wanting their kids to succeed. I wonder about the physcological stability of adults who were heavily medicaated as children.
