What Natural Or Alternative Remedies Have You Had Success In Treating Adhd For Your Child?

I’m looking for specific brands of herbal, homeopathic, supplements, etc. My son is 7 and has been diagnosed with ADHD and I would like some suggestions as we are not going to medicate him. Thanks!

These exercises will help with the ADHD treatment. Do it with the child in a fun way.
The breathing exercises – pranayam is a holistic approach creating extra oxygen supply in the body and will slowly help with the health problem.Do the pranayam to see the benefits.Build up your timing slowly and after two weeks at the suggested duration you will start to notice benefits.
Bhastrika – Take a long deep breath into the lungs(chest not tummy) via the nose and then completely breathe out through the nose.Duration upto 2 minutes.
Kapalbhati -(Do it before eating) Push air forcefully out through the nose about once per second. Stomach will itself go in(contract in). The breathing in(through the nose) will happen automatically. Establish a rhythm and do for upto 10 minutes twice a day.(Max 20 min/day) Not for pregnant women. Seriously ill people do it gently.
Anulom Vilom – Close your right nostril with thumb and deep breath-in through left nostril
then – close left nostril with two fingers and breath-out through right nostril
then -keeping the left nostril closed deep breath-in through right nostril
then – close your right nostril with thumb and breath-out through left nostril.
This is one cycle of anulom vilom.
Repeat this cycle for 5 to 10 minutes twice a day(maximum 20 minutes in one day).
You can do this before breakfast/lunch/dinner or before bedtime or in bed.Remember to take deep long breaths into the lungs. You can do this while sitting on floor or chair or lying in bed.
Bhramri Pranayam -Close eyes. Close ears with thumb, index finger on forehead, and rest three fingers on base of nose touching eyes. Breathe in through nose. And now breathe out through nose while humming like a bee.
    Duration : 5 to 10 times
    —-
Only by doing you will benefit and will feel good that you can do something to help the body.Copy and print this to master the technique. This is simplified pranayam for everyone and you do not have to go to classes to learn. This is for life unlike short term classes where you do it in the class then stop when classes are over.

My son has been diagnosed with adhd and I have been giving him 5htp (hydroxytryptophan). It states on the bottle that it can be given to children of age 5 upwards and my son is 9.
It seems to have calmed him down a bit and the aggravating arguments have stopped. He’s happier and more co-operative. He still has problems with his concentration and memory, but at least he’s co-operating enough in order for me to be able to help him – before all he did was work against us and used to shout and cry all the time.
I also give him Omega 3 Fish Oils and they seem to help as well.
I give him 50mg of the 5htp each night at bedtime. He’s had no side-effects.
You can get it from health food stores. I use the Serotone Brand as it’s safe and reliable. Most other brands start off at 100mg, but I think that would be too much for a child.
It’s an amino acid and works by increasing the serotonin levels in the brain – some preliminary research has indicated that low levels of serotonin can play a part in adhd. Low levels can also cause depression. I have noticed that my son is somewhat less aggressive than he was too. Not so angry either.
Like I said, it won’t help with the concentration difficulties, but if your son is suffering emotionally or is especially aggressive and defiant then it will help.
I take 100mg of 5htp to help with my depression and it’s certainly calmed me down and stopped me from being so irritable and angry.
You must give it last thing at night with a snack or some milk as it helps with sleep too.
It’s also best to cut out junk food and anything with artificial sweetners in – esp. aspartame as these can lead to dependance and irritability on withdrawal. Sugar is okay in small quantities – don’t let people tell you that sugar is bad – it’s only bad in large quantities and the artificial sweetners are far, far worse things to give to kids. Also steer clear of any colourings. Try to cook meals from scratch with fresh ingredients and you can even try baking your own cookies/cakes etc. I always use unrefined sugar in my baking. Plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables are good and get him to drink as much plain water as he can as dehydration can lead to irritability and will make the adhd worse.
message me if you want to chat or need support as I know how hard it can be.

It depends on the severity of the ADHD. I have two boys ages 7 and 8 who are extremely ADHD and a majority of the herbal remedies did not work for them. There is a form of massage therapy called Cranial Sacral that did provide a form of relief for my oldest son. It is hard to find a therapist that is licensed in that field and expensive but it was, by far, the best thing we tried. Another thing that helps somewhat is diet modification. Try eliminating processed sugars, processed foods in general and adding more protein, raw vegetables (if you can get him to eat it), and whole grains. Sometimes even the herbacides that are used on vegetables can cause problems so make sure everything is all natural. There is a product called BrightSpark that I’ve heard works wonders and also one called Focus. It’s basically a combination of different amino acids, minerals and vitamins that help the nervous system function on a more “normal” basis. As weird as this may sound ear candleing is a wonderful help for ADHD too. We do it regularly and it helps a great deal for the concentration. We’ve also found that counseling helps…it helps them cope with having ADHD and gives them someone to talk to outside of the family. Good luck!! Some of the smartest, most successful people have ADHD and used it to their advantage (Albert Einstein for one).

An associate of mine has a daughter that is diagnosed ADHD and she uses Herbalife Shakes to first give her good nutrition and then two other products that have specifically helped are Relax Now and Sleep Now. She says keeping her sleep cycle regulated has been huge in her improvements. These products are natural and not medication. The mother is an Herbalife Distributor and I’d be glad to connect you two, if interested.

if your worried about medicating your child maybe you should look at the alternative of not medicating him at all. i actually just read about a study in finland on kids who took medicine for leaning disabilities vs. kids who didnt, aparently by the time all these kids were 18 both groups were pretty much identical in their grades.
i had add and choose not to take any medicine for it (it made me missserableeee). as a consiquence my grades were horrible and i became less motivated and really slacked off for about 8 years. however, my coasting by in biology must have done something because i too figured out how to study. it just got easier and easier for me to sit down and study the more i worked at it and by the time i was 18, i was a pro. not only that, but somehow ive learned to take tests confortable and my sat score reveal im actually a pretty smart kid… well according to the test. and it all makes me wonder if i could have been this naturally smart if i kept putting weird, brain manipulating, substances into my body when i was younger.

When our son started public school, his behavioral troubles started. When he was 8 we started going to an allergy clinic using the NAET system of allergy eliminations. The results are terrific. If you are open to non-traditional methods, I highly recommend finding a NAET practitioner. When we finally got in to see a “traditional specialist”, he was very straight forward in saying that all he could do was prescribe drugs to treat the symptoms, and if the NAET was working, then carry on.

I think it is awsome that you are not going to medicate him. That is absolutely the right attitude. One of the things that is important is not just what you give him to help him but also what you stop giving him. Some of the food being sold today has aluminum and other toxic metals in it that screw up peoples brains. Read the labels. If it says sodioaluminate or something like that. That means it has aluminum in it. Also most of the time when they call an ingrediente (natural flavor) that is a chemical. Or when they simply say spice or spices instead of listing the specific spice or spices those are chemicals. Yes it is legal for them to call chemicals “natural flavor or spices”. Alpha lipoic acid is good for helping to take the toxic metals out of you. Also if your son spends a lot of time watching television instead of doing things in which he has to use his own mind and thereby excercise it, that is part of, maybe even the majority of, the problem. Today: Lots of childrens minds are simply not developing normally because of a lack of use. The only thing a child has to do to become retarded is nothing. That is nothing that excercises thier mind adequatly. Proper mental development is caused by lots of mental excercise of a variety of types. Sitting in front of the television set not using thier minds, and in fact having lots of nonsense flowing into thier minds, is a major contributor to so many childrens minds being screwed up today in my opinion. Children simply do not have time to sit in front of the television for hours every day and still do the things necesary for normal physical and mental development.

I would suggest getting a team of natural practitioners together to address the issue. You need to first address structure, making sure the spine is in proper alignment and that the nervous system and immune system are functioning optimally. Find a good Chiropractor in your area. Second, you need to address the diet. A gluten free diet has been very helpful along with whole food supplementation, fish oils, etc. Find a nutritionist, or Naturopath in your area who has worked with kids/ADHD before. Here are some research and article links for you.

This may seem a little off the wall, but I have had VERY dramatic results with many ADHD children using upper cervical Chiropractic. I just do normal Chiropractic on them – no fancy bells and whistles or hocus pocus! Of course I do it gently but the principal is the same – screwed up spines cause screwed up nerves.
It works very well and quickly! Then I usually set them up on some maintenance care every couple months, which is far better than medicine every day!
    Email me if you want.

I have seen really good results using fish oil. You need to go with a brand that is specifically for behavour & learning problems (we sell eye q and have never had any bad reports). You need to go with a fish oil that has the correct ratio of DHA and EPA in them. When your son starts taking them he will need to be on a high dose(6-8tab a day)for about 6 weeks. This is to build it up in the system. Once he has done that he can go on a maintainence course (2-3tabs a day). If you can get a suppliment with EPO (evening primrose oil) in it that would be benifical as well. Search for DR. Nicole Sinn – she is doing some fantastic research in South Australia which looks very promising (and may be even more accepted in the wider medical community due to the nature of the study).
